My wife is running WCG on her computer. I was trying to run WCG on my computer since March 30, 2015, with no success. My name comes up, but no tasks are running. My computer has now crashed. I am wondering if I could run along side my wife on her computer? Please advise. Thank you, Al Asher

You could, but it requires more than 'Out of the box' skills to set up. Don't think it's efficient either to run 2 difference 'clients' on the system. 'Workers' are the science applications themselves which are controlled by the client(s).
For the CPU there can be as many 'Workers' running as there are CPU cores/threads. Suppose there are 4 threads on the system, it can be set to run 2 on the client of your wife and 2 for yourself, but as said, don't think it the most efficient way. |

I only want to run it on her computer until I am able to get a new one. Is it too difficult to consider? Thanks, Al Asher

No hours or tasks ever appeared on my computer, since I joined on Mar 16, 2015. Thanks

It's impossible to determine why no work appeared with a crashed system. Normally if you install the WCG client for Windows from the download page, https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do it's kind of running the installer, just filling in your account name, same as what shows on the forums, and the password as used for the website.

Thanks, Al Asher Why? 1 computer runs one BOINC...even several users can manage same science that is run! that is why it's install put "allow other users to manage BOINC" for multiple users you would have to have more computers... |

I am using Windows 8.1 Thanks, Al Asher To get access to the 'Advanced' Installer options so you can choose 'All/Service/Screensaver', you first have to uninstall BOINC. As I indicated, it's possible to run multiple clients on one computer, each on their own member account, concurrent [Yes Klik, you can, as I posted earlier in this thread]. It's for the skilled, for those who know how to work the cmd line and how to take care of the permissions and properties and the various BOINC config files. Could even involve dabbling in the Windows register, it might even have been sabotaged in a way, because the <data_dir> parm was removed from config in latest versions i.e. not going to spend time writing this up [maybe the step-by-step instructions are on Google world somewhere]. |
