I have a problem that 50-60% of my Fight Aids @ Home task goes faulty and generates an error task.
----------------------------------------This have been going on for several months. I see the same problem in any version of Android 4 and 5. Also in any combination of the Boinc client (3 latest versions at least). The phone is a HTC One M7 running 2/4 cores @ 100% while charging. The usage of 2 cores is to keep the phone at a resonable cool temperature. The RAM limit is set to 70% and there is plenty of both RAM and storage free in the phone. The calculation is partly done and then always ends with a SIGSEGV: segmentation violation error. SIGSEGV (error 193) and Signal 11 (system overloads) are a quasi normal incidental occurrence on Android. The multitasking on this 'mobile' platform is just not as stable as is wanted it to be. Have them show for about 5 to 10% of the results on the tablet. Reduce the number of concurrent cores and the error rate will drop... running 2 of 4 cores here. This gives a so much better valid result rate that it makes up for running less threads same time.
----------------------------------------P.S. For the OET1 science on Android it appears to be a little bit better, though the app is using the same science engine as FAHV (FA@H). To add, I've set not to compute when on battery and to pause computing when system load is greater than 50%. Someone wrote in he'd selected to only run on battery, even when on charger [Guess these devices always run off battery anyway and never directly off the charger when there is an internal one]. Mine stops if battery gets below 50%.

----------------------------------------I am only running 2 of 4 cores on the device so there should be power enough for other stuff. Have now reduced CPU time limit to 90% and also lowered the task pause setting for other apps demanding power to 50%. Will continue to tweak the settings and see what the result is. I have never seen the same or any error on OET1 tasks... /andgra

Never seeing the same or any error on OET1 is great, considering this sample just passing by my tablet... In a matter of 16 minutes goes from a brand new _0 to being server aborted because the wingman and 4 more incurred a signal 11:

We are looking into these issues again. I do not believe it is related to any of the client settings because my development/test device is a Nexus 7 and I have not been able to recreate the issue with any combination of settings changes.

I'm not sure if I remember correctly but I thought I had a similar behaviour long time ago. I think cpu usage (not the amount of cores used) was limited and causes that the workunit was interrupted very often and leave application in memory when paused was not active.
----------------------------------------All my androids run all cores with 100%. O.k. these are all android boards - except my S4 mini - and I bought them for the only purpose: boinc. Right now I have 6 android devices active and all are reliable. No single error occured so far.  |

It's strange that armstrdj can't repro this as my Nexus 7-2013 does this OET [1 in 20], same science engine. Switched to FAHV and will report back.
Since a week have Android 5.1. The big memory leak there seems to have been is gone. Running use now about 60% where with 5.0 got frequent warning of 85% or higher RAM use. |
