Projects growth percentages

By updating my website, I realized singular changes in the growth percentages of the WCG projects.
https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/viewAllProjects.do
This may be related to the last database upgrade (yesterday).
Here are my findings :

FightAIDS@Home
Before 92% After 78%

Outsmart Ebola Together
Before 3% After 1%

Mapping Cancer Markers
Before 68% After 72%

Clean Energy Project (Phase II)
Before 62% After 70%

Uncovering Genome Mysteries
Before 20% After 20%

Re: Projects growth percentages

Jeps. The idea of having a progress indicator as a percentage is great, but for project where they don't know the end, its really meaningless. To the uninitiated this looks like a setback in the research, while it is probably just more work added.

Suggestion: show the percentage calculation: x/y*100 = z %. This way one can see whether the change in z is from x or y. (Where x is e.g. workunits completed and y is total workunits projected).

Edit: and if you add a sensible API, SekeRob will probably plot it over time :)

Re: Projects growth percentages

It's been plotted over time, right bottom of the Performance Charts . ;>)

(Since it's hard to see for FAAH, there's a black dot at the last data point... pretty telling how the calendar end-point has swung over the years, for all :)

For the definitionS and inputs, refer to the Timeline Help FAQs.

everything is OK...

the thing is:
percentage % is calculated from work done (X) compared to total amount of work (Y)...so X/Y
BUT, the Y keeps growing...& the % then go down!
cool

Re: Projects growth percentages

Well not quite that, but you're free to fill in as WCG has been letting us. Read the timeline FAQs and you know what inputs there are, and at least one that seems to have been omitted. ;>)

Re: Projects growth percentages

A good example is MCM, on timeline ('on the clock') we're at 73+%, but in [known] work volume we're at 69.n%. For FA@H is exactly the reverse, bigtime... The amount of computing work is way less than the time the project will remain active/intermittent for yet to be defined experiments [and those who read the scientist news/post items know what we're talking about].

Re: Projects growth percentages

Well we have increase of Y in BATCHES...in FA@h it's common right now, so people have been asking some questions...but the Scripts institute has made progress & developed a vaccine to be tested on monkeys for HIV...

Still, FA@h increased in Y...so the % did get down! Expected end was prolonged from this year to next!
Same thing happens with OET...some new proteins have been tested...or some new compounds against proteins...

But in News it's well written...though you have to go to the links & open their web pages... ;)

Re: Projects growth percentages

The defined amount of FAHV work is was 1 year at time of writing by the project scientist, round about when we were on 90-91%. Explicitly said was 'No more AutoDock, no more new FAHV experiment'. There's BEDAM refined target searches coming... when the analysis of years of accumulated terabytes of data has something useful surfacing, not before [See posts and news by Dr.Santiago]
