Re: Outsmart Ebola Together - v7.19 - Released

I'll take your variability and raise you 4 minutes and 21 hours on the same machine at the same time.

I see that you have a bit more computing power at your disposal, so I would expect you to see slightly more variation as well. wink

Re: Outsmart Ebola Together - v7.19 - Released

Have to admit I'm frustrated. I set my download settings to grab 1.5 days worth of work. And got a whack of files, fine. Every one of them has an estimated time of completion in 2.5 hours. However the 309 set is running 18+ hours. This leaves me with a few WUs which will not be completed in the 10 day time frame. No way around that unfortunately. Bad estimation on your part.

I'm surprised how fast this is, one is running on my computer right now; it's been 17 minutes and already 90%!

There is presently -no possible estimating- on the 'flex' work units. As uplinger wrote, they're hoping to find patterns in the returned results to improve [machine generated runtime estimates]. At least we have checkpointing, which before there was not. Imagine 18+ hours you could not boot your computer ;>)

You don't know more than the server. The following WUs might need one hour or less. smile

Still, if I were you I would reduce the buffer setting to 1 hour or even less.

Re: Outsmart Ebola Together - v7.19 - Released

@Techs, is the Time To Complete [TTC] adaptive to the number of checkpoints already taken against time already comp[uted? IIRC you spoke of 7/8 possible [?]. Looking on the client, got 2 that done 3:30 hours with one having done 3 checkpoints [BOINCtasks count] at 43%. The remaining TTC shows about 5 hours. The other logged 2 checkpoints 30% and shows about 8:35 hours remaining. That is ballpark kind of right.

On my observation there are 8 checkpoints throughout one job regardless of its length. Checkpoint occurs every 12,5 percent.
