One in two people in the UK will develop cancer

Another reason we all need to get behind WCG's cancer initiatives:

"One in two people will develop cancer at some point in their lives, according to the most accurate forecast to date from the UK. Age is the biggest risk factor for most cancers, and the increase in lifetime risk is primarily because more people are surviving into old age, when cancer is more common."

Re: One in two people in the UK will develop cancer

Things to do to avoid cancer:

*Don´t live in the city
*Don´t smoke
*Don´t drink
*Don´t buy a car
*Don´t use hazardus chemicals
*Don´t eat fried food
*Don´t eat raw meat
*Don´t be in the sun to long
-----------

Do become a monkey and live in the woods because that´s our natural way.

Chance of cancer = 1%

wink

Robert,

Car ownership causes cancer?

As far as food you forgot: don't eat preserved meats, or much of any meat really.
And don't drink scalding tea or otherwise expose yourself to repeated burn injuries.

But the biggest one is: Don't get unlucky.
Your chance of getting cancer isn't one percent, even if you do everything right.
Two of my closest relatives were as health-conscious as it gets, and while they were able to avoid a lot of maladies, they both died of cancer (Breast and Acute Myeloid Leukemia).

To you it may just be denial, but there's a bit of victim blaming going on in your self assurance.

Ok, you can own a car but don´t drive it.

Our closest relatives are Chimpanses, how many % of Chimpanses get Cancer?

Re: One in two people in the UK will develop cancer

It's a well established fact that those populations not living the 'Western' lifestyle, have a much lower cancer incidence. Of course life expectancy for populations with a 'Western' lifestyle is still greater, increasing your statistical chance to get cancer, so it's either/or.

Those able to afford the escape and remain in the 'good life' regions, with all the medical care available, alternate or classic, stand a better chance to get older, just the simple 'living the med cuisine' supposedly adds 5 years. It's though like the big tobacco argument, 'my uncle smoked till he was ninety'. My uncle was lucky, and that's what it is for the most part, working on your odds.
