Computation Errors

I have suddenly started to get computation errors on all my WUs on my dual core. It started yesterday and the units have all been about 24 hours inside their time limit.

This machine is dedicated to UGM so I can't compare with other projects. My i7 is crunching the occasional UGM successfully but mostly crunches MCM.

Is there are problem with the batch? Or is it something to do with my machine?

Help, please!

Mike

Re: Computation Errors

I have 12 UGM work units returned and validated today so far. The remainder are in PVal. None have errors. All had been downloaded within the last 24 hours.

Re: Computation Errors

Rule of thumb when 'suddenly all or many go bad', is booting the device to refresh all operational conditions. With booting is meant to not power cycle, but to properly shut down through the OS. Power off and wait 10-30 seconds, then power up again. This will in 99.9999% of the cases truly clean out RAM state.

Re: Computation Errors

The 2 currently being crunched were downloaded on the 28th. Those with crunching errors would have been in the previous few days. All were successfully crunched by the other party and are now with another cruncher for validation.

It must be my machine, but why?

Re: Computation Errors

Thanks Rob. I am about to reboot. I'll give it a couple of minutes rest to be safer.

Re: Computation Errors

I'm back, now. I'll repost with success or failure later. It might take 24 hours as I get low CPU/elapsed ratios for the first few days.

Re: Computation Errors

Has the AV been set to exclude the BOINC data directory from scanning? Run disk diagnostics, defrag and memtest86 for more checking.

Re: Computation Errors

I am not too sure about those apart from defrag. All I know is that I haven't changed any settings. The only thing done has been to remove about 15 GB of Recorded TV from the Hard Disk.

The 3rd unit to finish was also successful so the reboot has improved matters. Maybe I will see if there are any more failures before investigating further.

run MEMtest on your computer, to be sure that RAM is OK:
