Re: Pie chart for active research

Hello everyone,
first of all thank you very much for the great charts. Must have been quite an effort.

There is one thing I do not understand.

In one chart it says, that FAAH is "open nded".

I understand that this means open ended.

In the other chart, on the contrary, is given an amount of work "too process".

In my - maybe limited - view, this is contadictory.

If the project FAAH was open ended, then the amount of work yet to be done would be
infinite. It would then be impossible to measure the amount of work yet to be done.

In other words: A project can only either be opend ended !or! have a certain amount of work still to be done. It cannot be open ended and have a certain amount of work to be done yet.

Could someone please try to explain, which option is true:

Doese FAAH have certain, limited amount of work be done

or

is it open ended?

Which of those options is true???

Thanks
MS

This noon the noodling picked up stuff from the doodling, a newer version found up in this thread.

P.S, Martin, not going to write an essay on the rights and wrongs of the chart content, best publicly available data they're based. Try understanding the difference between weather forecasting and climate prediction, and you're a long way ;>)

WCG's estimate is based upon the current work submitted to them by the researchers. The researchers add more batches of work as they need, some of them are based on previous results from the project so it can be a bit circular. Others are completely new, based on other research, etc.

Re: Pie chart for active research

Just a bit of Sunday afternoon noodling...

If only we could put our hands on all the ebola work we could be finished, yes, before epiphany (Of course, the 1% progress shown on the research page has a very large Fantasialand component IME...)

Sorry Shinobi, not even a sketched pie as yet but in my head .

Knew to have posted it before, the doodle-noodle turning into element pixel exact alignment [not good if having had 2 caffé molto forte], and added the launch dates, so members don't have to rummage around [which we do anyway, thus plastering the same information all around the block ;o]

(No, an end date projection you have to think up yourself... it would be too narrowed down to be always wrong anyway... maybe first/second half of year X, the techs not giving one until 30 days before the end tongue)

Re: Pie chart for active research

Rob,

Thanks for all the charts.

Just noticed it looks like the labels on ToDo are swapped for UGM and OET.

Re: Pie chart for active research

PMH, it would be hard to do as the dates are picked up is fully automated fashion off the Dashboard, confirmation here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/research/viewAllProjects.do

BTW, expecting the OET work volume to adjust soon as the WCG Research summary page has a percent progress update. It's been stuck on 3% since relaunch when doing 4 times as much work as when we went into intermission at 2%. Making it still 15K batches, nothing hinted at by 'Those who could know' what the real volume could be in tasks, years, calendar. To me low feeder priority and this much work to do is way way to slow for my taste. Ebola is found to rapidly mutate and the more people infected, the bigger the chance of that.
