It is not easy to turn off BOINC, now will not turn on.
When I open BIONIC manager simple view. It states "Downloading work from the server", this never changes. NOTHING IS RUNNING.

This started because when I clicked on the SUSPEND BUTTON, BIONIC would restart by itself.
I think BIONIC MANAGER needs a simple way to turn off, so it will stay off until turned on.

NOW I AM NOT SURE HOW I TURNED IT OFF (a project was running that I think I canceled ???).

ALSO I AM HAVING NO LUCK TURNING IT BACK ON ! Little HELP please.

have you restarted your PC?

Open BOINC, press Ctrl+Shift+E on your keyboard (no need for the plus signs) and post all the messages that appear.

Maybe the 'simple view' manual gives pointers where to look and which buttons to hit: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/simple_view

There's 3 levels of suspend:

1) The agent entirely, which is the big suspend button, center bottom of simple view.
2) The project, which is e.g. wcg, as umbrella project. If wcg is selected as project, lower third, and you click on project commands, there's also 'suspend' listed.
3) A work unit or task.

Anytime a button with 'suspend' is hit it changes to 'resume' and vice versa.

Suspending processing completely also suspends networking! Suspending a task also suspends any further work requesting for the entire project and all it's subs.

In the advanced view 'activity' menu you can also hit the 'run always' option or 'suspend'. Generally, right clicking the icon on the system bar offers 'snooze', a 1 hour interruption. The menus always work on the basis of 'keep it this way until changed again'. Testing in simple view hitting the suspend button changed the advanced view activity menu also to 'suspend', but there's also a network suspend! Have a look and change it to 'network activity, always available'. Maybe you hit that?

P.S. There were capitalized sentences in the opening post as if there is a rush. More than 3 hours later, no reply to falconet, no rush raised eyebrow

Hi Falconet & lavaflow,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.

My Bionic in simple view would RESTART by itself AFTER I clicked SUSPEND in bottom center! I found this frustrating when I wanted to use my computer for other things.

I now remember clicking on PROJECT COMMANDS then ABORT. BIONIC has not worked correctly since then.

RESTARTING MY COMPUTER HAD NO EFFECT OR CHANGE ON BIONIC.

IN ADVANCED VIEW - under ACTIVITY I changed settings to RUN ALWAYS & NETWORK ACTIVITY ALWAYS AVAILABLE.
This seems to have restarted my BIONIC Manager.

I AM GOING TO POST THE Ctrl+Shift+E below.

Can you tell me how to set this forum to send me a notification email when someone responds to my post?

THANKS for the watch info.

BACK TO MY ORIGINAL PROBLEM. When I click "SUSPEND" my Bionic manager pauses work for ONE HOUR then automatically STARTS.

When I am using Windows Movie Maker it can take more than an hour to finish a project.

HOW DO I DISABLE BIONIC FOR MORE THAN ONE HOUR??????

In Boinc Manager click on file --> Exit World Community Grid. Select "Stop running tasks..." and click OK.

You found the answer previously, the advance view > activity menu > (cpu) suspend. That sticks till you reverse to 'run always'.

Testing revealed that the 'suspend' button in simple view is actually broken, and it must have been for longer as in my 7.4.27 it does the same, a berkeley recommended release. The menu shows it was changed to suspend, but the systray popup showing on right click that snooze was activated with the 60 minute counter running.

A technical solution is to one time create a cc_config.xml file and put this in the boinc Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC. In that file add an
<exclusive_app>filename.exe</exclusive_app>
BOINC will suspend computing whenever the executable is running (e.g., a game). Case is ignored in filenames. Multiple applications can be specified. New in 6.3.13

filename.exe has to be replace by the exact name of your movie maker program. The agent will stop as soon as moviemaker is loaded and will not resume until this program is exited. Basically, you never have to remember to resume/restart boinc. This can be used for any program, games, renderprograms, movieplayers etc.

The basic layout of the file is below, best created with notepad, making sure the file is named cc_config.xml , no txt or other extension.

<options>
<exclusive_app>MovieMaker.exe</exclusive_app>
</options>
</cc_config>

Don't know if the file already exists on your install. In that case only insert the excluse_app line in the options section.
