Elapsed time about twice CPU time

^Title, Is it normal? I suppose only CPU time actually counts for the completion of the task, is there something I can do? Why is it happening?

I'm using Boinc exclusively for CPU, Folding@Home exclusively for GPUs. I have an AMD A6 3500 processor OCed to 3.2 Ghz (stable after 9h of prime95), a Gtx 970 as the master VGA, and a Radeon HD 6670 as a workslave for folding in a PCI-e 4x.

Re: Elapsed time about twice CPU time

How much time is f@h taking off the cpu to manage the gpu? Doubtlessly the agents are in competition for the same cpu cycles.

Re: Elapsed time about twice CPU time

According to windows task manager, ~30%. That should mean a 30% increase in time on WUs, not 100%.

THe A6 is a 3 core processor (or so says Amd). Maybe selecting Boinc to run on 2 particular cores and FAH on the other one can help. Possible to do/true?

Re: Elapsed time about twice CPU time

Think you got it the wrong way around, where 30/70th would be 43 percent more elapsed than cpu time, at best. Elapsed minus other processes consuming cpu time is what's left to boinc with runs at the 'nice'st priority level there is.

Yes you could set boinc to run 2 threads and f@h 1, but the 70 percent of one thread would then get lost completely instead of boinc trying to make the best of it.

Think of what the fpu outfit is on such a processor? 1 for each core or is a single fpu shared amongst 3? Another high competition element in concurrent grid computing. One reason why intel outperforms amd, so is told.

Re: Elapsed time about twice CPU time

Is something else using the CPU?

I have 3 AMD APUs:

Here is the benchmark of my A8-6500 3.5 Ghz x64:

07-12-2014 17:16:11 | | Number of CPUs: 4
07-12-2014 17:16:11 | | 2612 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
07-12-2014 17:16:11 | | 8790 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU

For you to have such a high elapsed time, then your computer is probably being heavily used. When you open task manager, are all the 3 tasks running at 30% or close to it?

Re: Elapsed time about twice CPU time

I wonder. I do have other stuff sucking power out of the system on use. But when leaving overnight, (~9h), all I have left is AMD Overdrive and MSI afterburner. I make sure to close everything else.

Right now, running UGM units. They hover around 10-30 each depending on FAH and a game I'm playing.

Re: Elapsed time about twice CPU time

You could check some tasks that were computed and returned during for example, last night, and see if the elapsed time is still very high.

Your APU's CPU is basically an improved Athlon, so it should be good.

By the way, the APU has a GPU too which you could use as the main card and have that GTX 970 as a cruncher. Unless you play very demanding games.
