Evening all! I have just started to install the agent in all my computers in my office but would like to dedicate all the spare time that the other 400 pc's in my school offer between lessons etc to the grid...
I have hunted around the forums and on google on how to mass deploy the agent either via a batch file or preferably an msi with an attached mst. I gather that if this program is ran at soo many universities that they would have come up with a way of making this "easy"? The install program itself has an MSI inside but cant be customised very easily!!! if anyone has any ideas, i would love to know them! Thanks, Phil ICT Network Manager Oakwood School Horley Surrey UK www.oakwood.surrey.sch.uk |

Hello oakwood,
Your school might be interested in the Partner program described at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/our_partners.html There is a presentation in PDF format that you can download and view with Acrobat Reader. Another website, the Unofficial World Community Grid at http://www.unofficialworldcommunitygrid.com/index.shtml discusses running the Agent as a service, which can help keep it from becoming a distraction to students. Right now, there is no approved bulk deployment option, but you might want to discuss that with the staff, using the 'Contact Us' link at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/viewContactUs.do Welcome aboard! mycrofth |

Way to go, oakwood!
Best wishes with the deployment. I'm sure members would be interested also to learn of any technical difficulties/successes you discover in the process. |

The install routine is very clean for WCG, according to wininstallle which i used to repackage it up. However, i have deployed it and the computers start crunching numbers...
however... all the computers have the same name according to the website and they dont count as individual device installs... can anyone tell me which file contains the name of the device so i can change it? thanks, Phil |

Please contact us via the support emails using the "Contact us" link so we can take a look at what you have done in your particular case.
If you just copy all of the files to many machines, this will not work properly. Each machine must be individually registered. There are scripting tools which can be used to accomplish this. Multiple machines can have the same device name and same member name. If you only see one on the web site, it might be because of simply copying all of the installed files as is. There is no way to manually modify the registration file in the install directory to change device names and such. You can use the web site, however, to chance the name of a given device. |

Maybe do an unattended install with a logon script or something with an unattend.txt file filling in the fields?

This evening I have been able to install the agent to 30 machines in about 2mins. I used a program called AutoIt3 which doesn't record your steps, but allows you to "program" your mouse and keyboard movements.
I have also encorporated the vbs script which makes the agent run as a service after the install too so the program runs all the time no matter who is logged in and it also runs at the logon window too. All i have to do now is see if i can get it to install through a logon script for every computer.... I will report back! Phil |

Terrific news, oakwood!
If My Grid shows your network with results being correctly credited to different devices then we will want some instructions on just how you accomplished this. Eagerly, mycrofth |
