Uneffective work: saving problems

Hi everybody, I'm a bit disappointed, because my computer work a lot on the projects, but I lost the most of the data again and again. I mean today my computer finished the first 13% of a Clean Energy project, but than I had to restart the computer and I seen that it went back to 3% so I lost 6 hours work/10% which was already finished. Sometimes I have to turn of my computer but it seems effectiveness to start the process again and again... crying
Can I save it somehow manually before I turn of the computer or can I do anything whit it? Thank you!

Suggest for the admin to move this thread to the cep2 forum.

Eleskanyar, this is a really talked to death subject. pPlease read the said cep2 forum. Suggestions galore as workarounds from the user side, but software application wise nothings possible to resolve this. Booting really has to be 'planned' before doing so on this project.

No worries, admin takes care.

And of course, welcome to the forums. There's a pile of info collected here over the past 10 years, even the first posts still to be found. smile

Eleskanyar,

Welcome to WCG and the forums. You are not able to delete a post that has been replied to. If you have to turn off your computer every day then CEP2 is probably not a good project for you. However if you can hibernate your computer instead, then there is hope. As lavaflow said, read the CEP2 forum for more background on this project. Good luck with your crunching.

Re: Uneffective work: saving problems

I had the same problem, as I must turn off every evening. I 'solved' the problem by simply eliminating CEP from my list of areas of interest. Sorry, but that was my only solution.

You are not the only one...CEP has this problem! :/

Either they fix it...or find some new players... :/

Re: Uneffective work: saving problems

Hi, I was sure that the others had the same problem and yes they had.

I am experiencing the same godawful problem with checkpoints in Clean Energy Project 2.

My WU: : E228006_406_S.296.C36H22N6O2.WPJOEQODJJXVCT-UHFFFAOYSA-N.12_s1_14

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/devi....do?workunitId=1295194236

has reached a saved state at 40%. Since then, anytime I need to halt the crunching, certainly well over 50% of progress and 9+ hours of work - it returns to this mere 40%, going back with the time elapsed t 7+ hours.

This way I have lost many hours on this WU for nothing. I will try to keep running the machine without turning off for long but afterwards I think it is a bye-bye with this subproject.

Really, better checkpoints need to be implemented or some huge and precise info that the project has checkpointing issues. The fact that BOINC manager sucks and does not inform you when the last checkpoint has actually been done does not help either.

Re: Uneffective work: saving problems

All possible workarounds have been offered including VBOX solutions... read from top of this thread, complaining pointless as this is the CEP2 Q-Chem beast you either opt in to participate or don't [And the beasts will get bigger in the future too, a science only for solid 24/7 nodes or devices that are routinely hibernated / put to sleep when desired instead of booting]

Crowd Crunch On.

P.S. We can only see the task header, not the log detail of other member's results. Copy / Paste log in post if you want to share details.
