The "finish file present too long" is in the boinc api. Once the science application nears completion, the boinc api creates a finish file and then exits the science application. If the boinc client sees the finish file was created but the science application hasn't been able to exit after 10 seconds, it assumes a problem and kills the science application. Was this computer under any sort of heavy load that might explain that delay?

I cannot see any more which computer this was or at what date the WU ran, but a heavy load is always a possibility I guess. I have had to rebuild a RAID array on one of my machines, but that was more than 1 week before the posting, so that seems a bit unlikely. I know that the boinc library has the unsavory habit of imposing completely arbitrary deadlines rather than just trusting the OS to do the right thing. I guess this is one of those things...
