[RESOLVED] WCG offers downloading version 7.2.47 while highest current version at BOINC is 7.2.42

I just noticed that 'http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/reg/ms/viewDownloadAgain.do' offers downloading v7.2.47, but the highest formal available version on 'http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php' is 7.2.42. Which one is the real official latest and why are these versions not aligned? It's confusing and not logical.

Re: WCG offers downloading version 7.2.47 while highest current version at BOINC is 7.2.42

I just re-joined WCG on Oct. 2nd. I never paid any attention as to which version I downloaded, I just used the one form the download page that Wings2 listed.

Should I not be using 7.2.47?

If not, where do I find 7.2.42?

There is no version that you "should" be using. 7.2.47 is okay. If you are using that, then you should just stick with it.

Re: WCG offers downloading version 7.2.47 while highest current version at BOINC is 7.2.42

The stated reason for this state of affairs is that the Official WCG version has been security checked in depth by IBM and is guaranteed safe for large corporate users to safely install on their networks. The latest versions held on the BOINC site are not guaranteed. You can tell which version you are running from the icon in the systray. if you have one, WCG has the WCG logo, not the Boinc logo wink

My 7.2.47 has the WCG logo, so I guess I'm golden.

Re: WCG offers downloading version 7.2.47 while highest current version at BOINC is 7.2.42

Looking to the release notes indicated by 'lavaflow' I see that a lot of issues have been solved when going from 7.2.42 to 7.2.47; also intensive testing has been done.

Why is 7.2.47 therefore not offered to/by BOINC? Are the development groups of WCG and BOINC completely independent groups without daily contact? This question is just to understand the relations between WCG and BOINC.

The WCG team and BOINC devs do cooperate with each other.
I am sure that many of the improvements in that changelog are already part the next ALPHA/BETA/RC version of the BOINC software.

Re: WCG offers downloading version 7.2.47 while highest current version at BOINC is 7.2.42

Even the all-encompassing download directory at BOINC (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/) doesn't show a 7.2.47, so the distinction must have been made by WCG for some changes they made. I do notice that the WCG Mac and Linux versions are both shown as 7.2.42, does the software also show 7.2.47 or could it have just been a typo?

Even though I've contributed to WCG on and off since the United Devices days, I've never used their distribution of the BOINC client. I've always gone with the "recommended" version from the Berkeley site.
