I recently acquired a couple Dell Precision T5500 workstations, each equipped with a Xeon quad core 3.06 GHz processor (X5667). Can anyone tell me if it is worth my time/money to buy daughter boards and add a second X5667 to these machines? Will it run 16 work units or will it still only run 8 but just faster? Any pitfalls I should know about before I attempt this? I'm not a very computer savvy person, Word has me beat most days.
Thanks in advance for the advice. |

It will run 16, no such multithreaded applications most anywhere to make them go faster, but you may have the mod the cc_config to force this.

If you turned on hyperthreading in the BIOS, or if it is already turned on, then you should get 16 threads with 2CPU's. However, you will need to buy the same armount of ram that you have on the first processor for the second CPU, or split the RAM you currently have evenly between the two processors.
