human brain cells were grown in a dish and given genes for Alzheimer’s disease.

I'm only a software guy, but 'replicating the problem' is sometimes half the battle - at least now they've got a good 'test platform' to see what works and what doesn't. yes, the interesting part is that they can now use "experimental drugs" like the ones produced by crunching here. no human will be at risk.
