The other option might be to move to an ssd that is designed as write centric
----------------------------------------The Seagate 600pro 100, 200 and 400GB drives have a life expectancy (read limited guarantee) of > 1 drive write per day I believe. Alternately, you could run in Linux and move the whole operation of boinc/WCG to run in ram. I will look for the how to if you need it. ![]() |

I have 48GB ram in my dually and would love to run boinc in a ram disk. With win7 pro, i think the only way is to purchase software to do this. Correct?

Haven't played with ram disks stuff in many years. Did you load all of boinc to the ram disk on startup? I currently have Boinc on C drive (SSD) and data on E drive (mechanical). Might be a problem? Will have to look at the software to see how to load a program up. Thanks. Went ahead and purchased the 64GB version. Going to run boinc dry, uninstall, reinstall on the 20GB ram drive. If anyone sees a problem with this, please let me know. Thanks. Update: Try to install all of boinc in the ram drive but couldn't. Program is in C drive but data is in the ramdisk. Did a clean install after running boinc dry. Guess will see how it goes in time. C drive is a SSD so hope this setup will speed things up a little more.

So far so good. Running smoothly. Someone suggested I try softperfect ramdisk since it was free. Disaster. Nuked my other cruncher. Lost a day reinstalling everything. Back to regular crunching. Anyone using the free version of AMD's software know if 4GB will work fine with 11 threads crunching?

I'm using the AMD ram disk on a AMD 8350 with 8 cores with out any problems for little over a year. The mix of WUs , up to two CEP2 at a time. Currently only running UGM with a two day cash and out of the 4 gig I have 3 gig free. ![]() |
