The mechanism looks promising, long as wolbachia does not raise the chance of dengue finding a sooner resistance against it, or wolbachia turning sour. Man introducing anything 'into the wild' has rarely turned the right way.

See also my post re the start on 30 Oct 2014 of a 12-month trial of wolbachia in Townsville Australia here, in the Interesting News Articles Related to Dengue thread.

@lavaflow: Re the risk of "wolbachia turning sour", they are already here, infecting other insects such as fruit flies, so it shouldn't matter if they escape.
