Re: CPU core settings

not so bad) this a top PC.
just now i playing Risen 3 and count on all 8 cores. but this game does not need a lot of resources. But will soon be more demanding games and I would like more intelligently customize the program. At the very least disable 2 cores and I will hope for balancing.
thanks.

Re: CPU core settings

can't do that!

either stop executing BOINC when processes get to XY% of CPU...
or put games in "exclusive application"...

then it will work! ;)

Re: CPU core settings

Now i'm nothing to check how to play, I ran the benchmark in the Hitman on ultra settings.
with calculations on 8 cores I got 34-48 FPS, with no busy CPU 50-120.

For normal applications binding constant is solved by a key (CMD.EXE /C START /AFFINITY 1), but in BOINC each job is a new process, so third-party software can't solve this.
Calculation cycle is long, and i can make a binding every 4 hours (from task manager easily) if it will be really need, but I'm surprised that the client is no such option.

Actually, automated affinity and prioritization gets a mention on these forums wrt to a -free- tool called process lasso. You can force with that process manager to let all boinc apps by exact name go to for instance cores 2-7 and your games or whatever to 0-1. Then set boinc to 75 percent of processors, so it will leave 2 of 8 free. Exclusive app configuration option of boinc will pause the agent entirely as long as those exclusive apps are loaded, as in forget about exiting and boinc will never resume.
