Re: Huge blow to AIDS research

This is a really sad story... and very tragic and I agree that it is a devastating blow to AIDs research. My condolences to the families of the crash victims.

Re: Huge blow to AIDS research

At this moment, beside MH17 plane passengers, over 300 Ukrainins died during war with russian terrorists :(

This is the same type of plane crash when 96 government officers from Poland were killed in Smolensk. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Polish_Air_Force_Tu-154_crash . No one believes this was accident.

Science community should have some policy on traveling and avoid many top scientists travelling together in one vehicle.

RIP

This seems, to me, like a politically motivated post and does not belong on the forum talk to the hand

This is NOT the place for solving political issues. It is one for assisting and solving members problems and assisting humanity in general. Posts like your can start a flame war and do not belong in our community.

Re: Huge blow to AIDS research

According to an AAP article published online on Sat 19 Jul 14 by The Guardian the number of The International AIDS Society (IAS) Melbourne conference delegates killed was 6, not 100.

"The six people, and their HIV-related organisations, as confirmed by the IAS are:

* Pim de Kuijer, STOP AIDS NOW!

* Joep Lange, co-director of the HIV Netherlands Australia Research Collaboration (HIV-NAT)

* Jacqueline van Tongeren, of the Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development and partner of Joep Lange

* Lucie van Mens, director, AIDS Action Europe

* Maria Adriana de Schutter, AIDS Action Europe

* Glenn Thomas, World Health Organisation
"

Not 100, as reported earlier by OV and quoted by Old Chap, but outrageous and tragic nonetheless.

In spite of the loss of these delegates, there should be some posts about the conference in the Interesting news articles about AIDS thread coming up.

[Off-topic]Sorry rilian, while I'm sure that many readers of this forum have great sympathy with Ukrainians' struggle for sovereignty, politically-oriented posts don't belong in this thread. I'm not sure whether starting a separate thread about same, also in the Chat Room, would be acceptable - after all, it's the "chat room" so discussions about things other than WCG may be OK there.[/ot]
