Boinc 64-bit vs Boinc 32-bit

Hello,

I currently have BOINC 64bit installed (7.2.42). Is there a performance boost from using 64-bit instead of 32-bit for crunching WCG projects? Or is that only applicable to certain boinc projects?

Thank you

Hi,

No. Any performance boosts will come fromt he science apps being 64-bit versus 32-bit. BOINC is just the manager.

Hi Falconet,

Do you know if any of the WCG projects use more 64-bit than 32? Or are all 32 bit?

Look here https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq

The assignment of work is automatically regulated based on the operating system that is signaled to the server. Sometimes there's exception and a 32 bit is send to a 64 bit system, most often a repair job. Obviously a 64 bit task is never send to a 32 bit system.
