From the project news update at https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewNewsArticle.do?articleId=369
As a side note, this benchmarking process is why members may have experienced shorter or longer than usual runtimes over the past several months. The core algorithm of the Mapping Cancer Markers engine, used to evaluate each potential gene signature, has a processing time that is highly dependent on the statistical characteristics of each signature. The search space targeted by a single work unit can sometimes contain time-consuming signatures, which together lead to a longer total runtime. This also means variability with the size of Mapping Cancer Markers results. A typical work unit will evaluate tens of thousands of potential gene signatures, many of which are of low quality. Signatures below a certain quality threshold are removed from the returned results. However, the search space targeted by a single work unit can sometimes contain a high proportion of high-quality gene signatures. If this happens, the result file is larger than usual. |

From here on in I'll only mention the really short batches, of which 5869 and 5870 are two (~15 minutes).

5899's are running about three times longer; these are the start of the longer WU's. For people with deep queues; you might want to either reduce queue depth or disable getting new WU's when you have quite a few already in your queue. This way the ETA can be adjusted to be more accurate. If someone is running a 4-day queue, they will get around 12-days worth and they won't complete them in time or return some past the resend deadline and ultimately cause three WU's to be returned which just wastes CPU time.

When reading that yesterday, decided to bulk up my cache with 2.5 days worth and let it compute, whatever came. Set a new node record with 354 results validated and 65k points for 7:10 days cpu time. That's 8k points per hyperthread for 24 hours computing. Anyone around who can better that
(Since we figured out how retarded the credit system is, there's smart points to hop on, stockpile, and when to hop off. The lol part is, cherry picking was supposed to have been rooted out with credit new, yes really. This is fun and doing good and the same time ) |

I'm getting a mixture of short (sub 30 mins) and longer (up to 8 hrs). Just swings and roundabouts. Don't run 24 hours like some so it isn't an issue with me.
