Ubuntu error

Firstly, I didn't know where to post this, so apologies if it's in the wrong place

After a power outage, one of my machines is not allowing logon, it boots and presents the login screen but after entering the password and pressing enter the error 'Cannot start session 'UBUNTU'

I've run all the diag/fixes in the recovery screen and restarted several times...

Anyone got any idea as to what to do next?

BTW 'Guest' login does not work rither, same error!

Many thanks in advance...

This is A Ubuntu server 12.04 LTS installation, with desktop installed and has been as solid as a rock!

Re: Ubuntu error

It may not be very helpful, but when all else fails, reinstall the OS.
Cheers

Re: Ubuntu error

Thanks Joe, that's been in the back of my mind, but I want to avoid loosing the WU's that are cached if I can.

While I know it's not a huge issue to loose them, I just don't like doing it...

Although I may just do it to prevent too much down time.

Re: Ubuntu error

I reinstalled an operating system yesterday. It is a liberating experience to be rid of all the accumulated computing detritus.

Re: Ubuntu error

Done it, all rebuilt and patched with the latest Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS

Problem is now, I can't get any CEP2 WU's to crunch!

Re: Ubuntu error

Sounds like you installed the 64-bit server and need the 32-bit libraries as CEP2 is 32-bit.

See here for installing the 32-bit libs:

See here for editing the boinc cc_config.xml to include the alt_platform option:
