Immortality - let's go for it!

every day i hear people saying "i don't want to live forever" etc. well that's not my viewpoint!

of course i am assuming we would keep our present bodies (more or less) instead of being put onto compact disks biggrin

i heard the latest theory of aging (apart from "free radicals") involves the fact that 'telomeres' get shorter every time a cell divides, causing errors and aging.

i would love to hear from you people about all this!

After a decade of working in nursing homes and hospices I most certainly DO NOT want to live forever.

he didn't say how things woudl work with aging - I doubt many people would want to live forever if they were basically sat 24/7 vegitating

Re: Immortality - let's go for it!

Well we have a lot of diseases to cure before worrying about radically increasing general lifespan.

Plus, the planet is already over-populated.........we cannot, as a species, look after the population we have now.

Where is all the food gonna come from?
Housing space?....fresh drinking water?

Would increased lifespan be allied to ever more draconian limits on birth rates???

The initial question leads to many more fundamental questions....and that's even before considering the morality issues.

I don't believe the current human "mindset" leads to a sustainable future for humankind. War, hunger, greed, intolerence, pollution....

If we all lived forever nothing would change.

We need to move on and hope attitudes and lifestyles change with future generations.

Hey, I can hope can't I?

Have a happy weekend! wink

Well hm I'm still young to even think about death. So right now I think that it would be nice to se all this technology and stuff that will happen in I don't know 100 years. Space programs, AI maybe, where will computers be and so on.

Maybe not forever but 200 would be nice :-) :-) biggrin
