Restart your friend's computer and then copy/paste his Event log.

This is how I exit. Okay. If you don't see the dialog box then just show the first 50 lines of your Event Log.Forcing an agent stop, the daemon process, can be done via the 'shutdown the connected client...' in the advanced menu. Exiting the gui manager could be stopping the agent too, it depends on whether the option was ticked to remember the stopping on exit, but who remembers doing that  . Simplest though, a boot is guaranteed to achieve a full restart and get a clean boot log, tailored to the displayed skill of most starting crunchers, no derision intended  Get to the agent log, hit Ctrl+Shift+E (all key shortcuts for boinc manager are shown in the menus).  |

Here are the new data. But, I think it's working now. I forgot my first advice to every Windows problem -- reboot. Apparently if I'd done that immediately that's all that was needed.

He seems to be fixed. I suggest people be encouraged to reboot after giving a fresh installation time to settle in.

First installation actually required a boot at the end of the installation as a service. But, as was indicated, if there are communication or computation problems, a boot is often the swiss knife of fixing issues.
