unable to register in computingforgood.org

Hey Guys,

This is my first post as I'm trying to register on computingforgood.org to start receiving some ripple coins to my ripple account.

However, when I try to register on the website, I put my WCG username and verification code, and I put my ripple wallet address, I click register and i receive the following error:

We're sorry, but something went wrong.
If you are the application owner check the logs for more information.

Can anyone help me getting registered on computingforgood ? I've done all of the necessary steps, and registered everywhere i had to. Did they shutdown registration for new people ? Is there a way for me to register and earn XRP from participating in WCG ?

Thank you very much for your help

Re: unable to register in computingforgood.org

I think Ripple Labs is reducing the payment program. I'm not sure what all that means, or how people register.

Here at WCG you're more than welcome to start participating immediately, but it's donated time to help humanity. WCG itself is not for money and profits. The WCG results are free computing results that humanity needs. I'm not sure, but maybe the other Boinc places could be for profit, but WCG is not.

You can set your settings to compute only the way you want, in the background when the computer is not busy. There is a badge program here at WCG forums, and you will earn the badges as your computer participates.

I hope you stay here at WCG either way.

Re: unable to register in computingforgood.org

Jr1 is correct. The giveaway will end at the end of April. Ripple started the month giving away 1.25M XRP per day then reduced it 1M then 750k and now I think it's down to 500k. It will probably drop to 250k and then nothing at the end of the month.

I had thought that RL had stopped letting people register for CfG so it's strange that you're getting an error message rather than an outright rejection.

Yes, it is strange. They could at least posted a message on the website closing new registrations.

I've sent an email to them and will await for feedback and share it here.

Re: unable to register in computingforgood.org

branjo: I really don't think people should have to search a forum simply to find out that they can't register. What kind of half-@$$ web design is that? If you know people are going to come to your web site to register, what kind of moron puts up a cryptic error message instead of just telling people, 'yo dude, we be out of business, go away.'

If Ripple expects people to adopt either their system or their currency, they had better find a way of building their community and communicating with them.

Re: unable to register in computingforgood.org

I'm sure this was part of their plan all along... They can't give away free currency forever, since the WCG campaign did nothing to help their system function (like mining) and would just dilute the value of their currency over the long run. It was a good way for them to get publicity and attract a user base while seeding purchases and exchanges for other currencies.

Re: unable to register in computingforgood.org

That would be encouraging if true, but I remain skeptical. I think they were surprised by the low rate of adoption here - meaning the number of people willing to switch teams. They completely misunderstood what motivates most people here.

Anyway, the value of XRPs has fallen by about half since they made the announcement, even though the daily payout has consistently fallen. Since giving XRPs to startups is the only leverage they currently have, I think the drop in price is a pretty telling indicator of a general loss of faith in Ripple.

Me neither.

I posted the link because I think that if somebody is interested in answer on Ripple-related question, (s)he will find the answer on Ripple forum rather than on some others (e.g. WCG one).

ETA: ErikaT, could you, please, move this thread to Chat Room, I don't think it belongs to BOINC Agent Support
