The value derived from participating in this project is entirely internal. It is voluntarily done with no expectation of any personal monetary return. Hopefully any external return benefits all mankind to help alleviate suffering and make lives better.

sgt., i know it is voluntary and i know there are no expectations of monetary return. i was just trying to throw an idea out there that a "token" in ripple can be issued and distributed based on "provable work". this token has no value per se, but it could have value benefiting your cause.
anyway, i admire this community's selflessness and honesty. maybe there's another community out there who might be interested. thanks for the feed back. |

They give the highest points of any Boinc project so it is dominated by crunchers who are only in it for the points. They may be more accepting of your idea of crunching for reward. |

No. No way. Never.
----------------------------------------I do what I do for WCG, to benefit mankind, not to earn Ripples/Bitcoins/IOUs etc. I don't want, nor expect any financial reward for the time & electricity used. BTW, I was 'hacked' by some tosspot from Ripple, so they could claim credit on my behalf. In 15 years that I've been crunching various things, no one has 'hacked' me, until Ripple came along and the promise of earning money. As soon as money is brought into something, it brings out the worst in people and attracts the wrong type of people. ![]() |

What if WCG increases the points it gives out, would that bring in some more participation? |

As soon as money is brought into something, it brings out the worst in people and attracts the wrong type of people. This is why I for one, am glad that the CFG-Ripple giveaway has ended. I would much rather see additional adoption through some low cost targeted web advertising. Sites like Wired or Tom's Hardware would be ideal. The sites may even be willing to donate advertising space given the good causes, in exchange for a "current donors" link on the WCG website. IBM brings a level of reputation to this endeavor that few can match.

My intention is not to offend someone with my thoughts in the following lines!
----------------------------------------To be honest: As the ripple team came up "buying" resources I was close to stop participating on WCG. I love the spirit of volonteering. For me it's a pleasure to donate my ressources for free. Another aspect I think about: In my opinion there is a risk that WCG might be blackmailed if a team was founded with commercial interests and a massive amount of team members. ![]() |
