knreed's final post indicated .....my role on World Community Grid will move onto someone new
----------------------------------------Is there any news on this replacement or an indication of the timescale? The final post, plus the link to A Smarter Planet blogpost unearthed by Scribe, gave us a wealth of backgroind info on Kevin Reed. Why not take the opportunity of a new apppointment to provide us with some information on the whole WCG team, techs and admins, in the form of a News post of behind-the-scenes stories from the World Community Grid team as promised? We know that Juan (jhndo) supported by ErickaT and Tedi (TKH) look after admin whilst Keith (uplinger) is the very public face of the tech team with occasional appearances by Viktors and armstrdj. Is that everyone or have I missed some unsung backroom hero ![]() [edit] Apologies seippel for missing you in my original post and thanks to LCB001 for pointing out the omission. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jonnieb-uk at Apr 17, 2014 6:51:09 PM] |

I would first posit that Kevin is not replaceable.
---------------------------------------- I do agree that similar info on the rest of the team would be nice to know and help us understand the goings on behind the "big green curtain" as to "what the wizard is really doing". I think you got the whole team, expect for the "project manager" (Bill Boverman in the past but I think it's someone else now). Knowing IBM, I would not expect to see a new face. WCG has no revenue stream so keeping costs to a minimum is probably even more a focus than on other projects/clients in IBM. Also, when someone leaves IBM, managers find that giving up that "headcount" in the next round of the ever-ongoing layoffs is one of the few ways they have of protecting their staff. As for the staff, it's usually a smart move to be assigned to more that one project. That probably means most of the names we know here work on more than just WCG, Keith U. being the most likely exception. If a customer/client decides not to new renew a contract, being on additional projects means you're much less likely to get laid off. If that contract is the only one you work on and it's not renewed, your job is toast no matter how good you are. |

I'm pretty sure that Bill Boverman has retired from Big Blue - whether he 'jumped' or was 'pushed', I don't know. I hope the former - but, where IBM's concerned, you just never know...

Is there any news on this replacement or an indication of the timescale? Replacement announced earlier today. And yes Bill Bovermann did retire a couple of years ago, which is when I took on his role as project manager. And we will be putting together a page about the World Community Grid team so you know who's who and what we each do on the project. |

@ keithhenry
----------------------------------------Thanks for bringing up the name of Bill Boverman with which I was unfamiliar. I spent some time reading his old posts which provided some background to old events, and to earlier discussions on various topics, particularly Badges! ![]() |

A WCG team "who's who" page (with pictures?) would be a great idea.
