THe latest News item states that some issues have been fixed in the new Website, one in the Forum being to do with Signature width distorting the display. How is this explained?

In that case, the image would have to be automatically resized. But even with my sig and similar ones made of multiple images, the forum software doesn't have the smarts the automatically wrap the images.
----------------------------------------I made my sig less annoying from that point of view by changing the layout to accommodate the new width. But unless everyone does that (yeah, right) it's going to be a recurring problem. I'm sure the staff will get around to it eventually though. Maybe by 2020 we'll have forum software worthy of 1999. ![]() ![]() |

Bizarre! The l/h sidebar fluctuates between displaying badges 5 across and 4 across with no apparent reason for the change! The Recent fixes to website News item states member signatures will now be scaled to fit and multiple images will wrap. My questions (if/when this fix is made to work)are: 1. Is the width of the message box fixed? Previously this line in one of my old posts ChrisUK up 1 place to 75 jomcd up 1 place to 62 adoades up 1 place to 56 2. Are there any circumstances, e.g. signature width, which will cause the message box width to change? 3. What is the maximum number of characters per line in the message box? This antiquated forum software forces me to spend a lot of time to ensure the data tables I post are correctly formatted. That's something I can live with so long as the parameters are known and fixed. As a personal observation I would say that the size of the l/h sidebar should be reduced to display badges held 4 across and the space reallocated to the message box. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by jonnieb-uk at Apr 8, 2014 7:05:22 PM] |

THe latest News item states that some issues have been fixed in the new Website, one in the Forum being to do with Signature width distorting the display. How is this explained? ![]() Alan, I thought this was the same behavior I saw before any of the website changes. If I view the post with the browser full screen, there are four badges in each row on the left. If I "restore down", it goes to one badge per row and I have to scroll left/right to see everything in the post. |

As far as I am concerned it is the same as it used to be.....but....this news item claims to have fixed it!
In the Forums, wide signatures were distorting the display of the conversation thread. Wide images in member signatures will now be scaled to fit and multiple images will wrap onto multiple lines if they exceed the column width. |

Interesting. I looked at the same post in Chrome. There, in full-screen, the width of the forum display is the width of the first column (with four badges per row) and the post display (shows as the width of the second image in the sig). The entire forum display (left to right) does not take up the entire screen but has "bluespace" on each side. After "restore down", the bluespace goes away as I shrink the width of the window and the window goes to a left/right scrollbar. The first column with the badges does NOT change. Maybe their change, whatever it was, depends on the browser to some degree.

Wait! It seems to have been fixed. I use Chrome and the display now seems fine to me, the signature width has been reduced and all columns are lining up down the page. I will leave the thread open for a while and if it is still the same later today I will mark as RESOLVED

In Firefox 28 and IE11, I have 4 badges per row. No amount of changing the browser width or maximising the window alters that. This was the case with your original example right from the start.

Does not matter what browser, on windows the standard showing is 4 badges across, on linux based 5. In my case this is evident on android and ubuntu. The exceptions occur, which is when the post frame gets pushed or the member name is long, which is when you get less or more badges across. Thus, it's probably somthing that makes the website recognise the general platform. Dont know about the apple garp. Unix based, so maybe 5 is the default too.
