That's making a lot more sense now, thank you. I'll have to play around a bit to see if using compression is/isn't effective in my case. Perhaps BOINC first checks how much bandwidth is available to use and then chooses whether to request compression in the server header or not (based on whether the download would complete if compressed)... I'll test and see. It's a tricky one, because raising my allocation might allow this specific file to come through with less bandwidth wasted, but then a larger file may have the same issue. |
