So, in my parents house is an old computer with AGP graphic card...as for now it's crunching on WCG! But over time, the graphic card got "bad"...now I'm on the verge of a exchanging it to something better for them!
----------------------------------------Few years back, there wasn't ANY graphic card that could crunch some data on WCG...now, we've got s list for HCC project only: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=GPU#610 What I noticed is that some of the cards there are available in AGP version...for example ATI Radeon HD up to 4600 series is available in AGP, of which 4670 (alongside with 3850) is considered one of the fastest AGP graphic cards... But what about nVIDIA? Fastest nVIDIA GeForce cards in AGP are 79XX, which are not on list. But what about professional cards? There are several available in Quadro NVS & Quadro FX versions: http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_20021117_4726.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NVIDIA_Quadro#AGP Does anyone use some GPU cruching on AGP version of the card? What are your numbers (GFLOPs, calc times, etc.)? Do you have 1core or multi-core CPU? How much do you give CPU % for GPU crunching? ![]() |

KLiK,
Sorry, but WCG does not currently have any projects that will use graphics cards. The HCC project ended almost a year ago. |

For almost a year, there are not any WCG sub-projects written for GPGPU, nor there are plans for a new one in the near future.
----------------------------------------So, you have to choose what DC project(s) would you like to crunch with a new GPU and based on this choose AMD or NVIDIA one. Some of them are better optimized for AMD/ATI, other for CUDA. GPUGRID (what a misleading name ) has only CUDA application...Cheers ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Is it possible to crunch WCG on 80% on CPU & other WU on GPU?
----------------------------------------Or do I have to dedicate 1core/CPU to give job strictly to GPU? |

There was news today of a android skinned client for gpugrid, so added them to the regular boinc for android client and got some images for the project slideshow. No work, went to ask the technician there who replied they've also got work for android cpu. Even less gpugrid now

Is it possible to crunch WCG on 80% on CPU & other WU on GPU? Or do I have to dedicate 1core/CPU to give job strictly to GPU? Some of GPGPU applications are very gentle toward CPU's and use just a small fraction of 1 CPU core/thread (e.g. Collatz, PrimeGrid, Seti), some of them use higher (e.g. Einstein, MilkyWay). Regardless, I am crunching 8 concurrent WCG CPU tasks (i7-3770) + 1-3 concurrent GPGPU WU's for other project without dedicating CPU core/thread to them. In the first case the difference bewteen CPU and elasped times of WCG tasks is small (CPU time is app. 97-98% of Elapsed time), in the second one a bit bigger (circa 95%).
