OK - so I haven't been participating for a while but ready to go again.
----------------------------------------Dual Xeon 5650 cpu's on SR-2 board so 24 available cpu's Windows 7 Ultimate. Just installed Boinc 7.2.39 (x64) installation went smooth and everything downloaded and 1st task currently running. BUT that is all it will run - 1 task. when update and task scheduler runs it come back with "Not requesting tasks: don't need" Can someone please point me to what I am missing This system used to run massive amount of work units. So is wasteful to have just 1 WU running. I have poked around and can't see the setting I am missing. Thanks underwater [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 23, 2014 8:15:55 AM] |

Hi underwater, do you participate in CEP2 only? This project by default has a limit of one WU per host. You can change this behaviour in your profile settings.

underwater, Are you crunching only CEP2? If so, go to the device profile and near the bottom locate where it says "Number of workunits per host forThe Clean Energy Project - Phase 2?" and select "unlimited".
----------------------------------------CEP2 is a very I/O intensive project. Many crunchers find it is more efficient to limit the number of CEP2 workunits and crunch a mixture of projects. [Edit 1 times, last edit by deltavee at Feb 23, 2014 7:31:23 AM] |

Thanks for response.
----------------------------------------Hope to get this one resolved so all help appreciated. No my profile is set to allow all projects to run at the moment. The one running WU was a Mapping Cancer one. I just added GPU Grid and it cranked up 6 tasks straight off the mark. After that I reset WCG and it's going through it's downloading project files right now. Now it says not reporting or requesting tasks for WCG - don't know what I have done. Will come back to it later after cooling off period. Maybe some replies awaiting. Cheers [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 23, 2014 7:37:01 AM] |

For some reason you may have entered a mode that only permits a 'limited' number of tasks until you have 'proved' yourself, just wait for a number of returned valid tasks then the situation may improve........

Problem Fixed.
----------------------------------------Must been been a borked setting in the Boinc Manager. Used the clear button under preferences to restore from web based preferences. Like magic about 30 tasks start to download. Thanks for assisting :) EDIT - 4 CEP task currently running - what should I watch out for ?? I changed to unlimited before as advised in attempt to get more than 1 task running. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 23, 2014 8:11:09 AM] |

With 4 CEP running I found the system got very sluggish and I felt there was a memory leakage (never proved) but I felt I had to re-boot to 'clear' the system. Suggest you amend the unlimited to set to 2 and abort any CEP that have not already started, that will ensure you never have 4 running again once the originals have finished....

Scribe I think is referring to newly connected devices will only be allowed to have a maximum of tasks in progress equal to the number of processing cores the devices has plus two more in this post by knreed but your problem appears to be that downloaded WUs are not running rather than WUs not downloading??
----------------------------------------Have you checked/amended the default settings in the new BOINC? Specifically Tools>>Computing Preferences>>processor usage . And the Resource Share if running other projects in addition to WCG? ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jonnieb-uk at Feb 23, 2014 11:03:12 AM] |

Glad to see you've resolved the original problem.
---------------------------------------- If so, go to the device profile and near the bottom locate where it says "Number of workunits per host forThe Clean Energy Project - Phase 2?" and select "unlimited". This profile setting only controls the number of CEP2 WUs downloaded and "Ready to start" or "Running". To restrict the number of CEP WUs running concurrently to avoid memory problems etc you to make/amend the app_config file (Found in C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org\ in standard Windows installation). <app_config> <app> <name>cep2</name> <max_concurrent>xx </max_concurrent> </app> </app_config> xx Insert number according to personal preference/experience. Trial and error may be necessary. Having created/amended the app_config file don't forget to "Read config file" in BOINC Mgr Advanced. Search app_config in the forum if more info is needed. |
