sad BOINC task starts binary web browser rabbit on my Windows 8 computer.

This morning I woke up to find my Windows 8 gaming machine, that runs BOINC, was hung up chasing a binary rabbit that kept firing off a new browser tab to this URL: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Advanced_view.

Rebooting my machine seem to fix the problem, but 5 minutes later it started again. Attempts to do a normal shutdown through the keyboard failed and I had to do a cold restart. If I didn't log into my computer right away I would not be able to log in after 5 minutes because the "ALT" key seemed to be always down. I was finally able to get into my machine by disabling my network router and access the resource manager. I shut down all of BOINC and any modules that had fired off and the system began to run normally. I have since uninstalled WorldCommunityGrid from my gaming machine. I now will start removing it from my work machines as well. I can't have BOINC preventing me from using my workstations.

Sorry all, it looks like I'm out of this project for the duration.

Hmm never heard any reports of this.

What is the boinc version, please post the first 50 or so lines from the event log.

I would reinstall BOINC 7.0.64 in the machine where this occurred. Also, what was the browser?

This might be a shot in the dark, but it could merely be a keyboard problem. Try a different keyboard.
Cheers
