Rock on with MOT! What are we? 2nd or 3rd in every category except members? We're hitting way above our weight class in this endeavor.
Please, party people...donate to the Red Cross. The south-eastern US got hammered by Hurrican Katrina. Being an insurance broker, I'm guessing this will more than likely be easily the third most costly (death toll) disaster in US history (behind 9/11 and the Galvaston hurricane) and will probably be the 2nd highest costly ($-wise) disaster (behind 9/11) in this nations history. If you can, please help. Every little bit counts. |

If you can, please help. Every little bit counts. Now as of this morning in New Orleans they have had a large explosion just outside of the city. Mayor of New Orleans says it doesn't pose any effect on the people, but who knows how long it will burn since all emergency people are tied up in the rescue efforts. Also heard that many of the New Orleans POLICE Dept. have quit due to the high violence there right now. What a mess indeed. Hopefully soon they will get more help there. Wisconsin just deployed it's National Gaurd to the scene this morning and here in La Crosse, Wisconsin we are collecting money to send down there, and in the first 2 hours have collected over 18,000 dollars from a community of less then 100,000 people. KEEP THE FAITH HELP IS COMING FROM ALL OVER!! ![]() |

Looks like help is finally arriving !!!
----------------------------------------There have been claims that up to 100,000 people may have been lost in the disaster. This tragedy gets worse by the day. I'm a little confussed as to the reaction to this disaster with the Tsunami countries from around the world were sending help. What's happening here???? With the Tsunami Google.com had a list of agencies that could be contacted. Nothing this time!! Not even a mention. I thought my earlier post would have sparked a response! Nothing. You can see why the folk of Louisiana feel like they've been abandoned Tell me if I've missed something and I'm barking up the wrong tree. I can't see how this disaster is any different to the events of the 26th December last year apart from the size of the part of the world affected "Irked" of West Sussex, UK ![]() |

Dave --
It is very frustrating for me seeing the slowness of the response as well. In 1996, the first year I lived here in North Carolina, Hurricane Fran came directly through Raleigh where I live. It was a disaster like I have never seen. Trees were down everywhere, some onto peoples homes. I was lucky as a tree had come down just six inches from my car. Power was out for three weeks and more in some areas. The cleanup of debris lasted for several months. That was only a category 1 storm (winds of 75 mph) and we had minimal flooding from the 10 to 12 inches of rain that fell. This disaster from Katrina is, as you said, more on the scale of the Tsunami. Beyond there appearing to be little global response to it, I read that Muhammad Yousef Al-Mlaifi, director of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Endowment's wrote an article which intimated that the US had it coming. I guess he would rather still be under the thumb of Saddam Hussein instead of being free as a result of us infidels. |

Not everything is negative. The enormity of the disaster is being realized. Friends around the world are starting to respond according to this article.
----------------------------------------If you would like to view live local coverage from the area, there is an internet feed from Louisiana Public Broadcasting here. It gives a perspective on reality on the ground! -- Dave [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 2, 2005 11:57:43 PM] |
