As it says in the title, is there a mb that will take 4 Xeon X5450's or E5450's, I have loads sitting idle as they are too expensive to run too many. combining 4 on one mb may make the difference...
Is the 4p technology to new for that processor? Any ideas would be appreciated Many thanks in advance |

I don't think you can have a quad socket configuration with 771 chip. That might be the first thing to confirm before going on a wild goose chase.
----------------------------------------You probably already checked the egg like I just did and they don't carry any quad sockets except for AMD. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by twilyth at Jan 30, 2014 8:15:21 PM] |

OK, found it. According to this from CPU World, you can only run that chip in groups of 2 (look where it says "multiprocessing."
----------------------------------------edit: and that is only for the X variant. Might be only one for the E's ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by twilyth at Jan 30, 2014 8:24:39 PM] |

OK, found it. According to this from CPU World, you can only run that chip in groups of 2 (look where it says "multiprocessing." Thanks Twilyth, that confirms my suspissions. However, it is not restricted to the 'X' version as I currently have several HP XW8600's running 'E' version of the processor with 2 processors and working very well, just not enought output per watt!edit: and that is only for the X variant. Might be only one for the E's Just couldn't find any 4p boards for that CPU, so thought I'd ask... Guess I know why now. Thanks again! |

Mama, there was one Dell poweredge mobo that had quad 771 sockets on it. i saw it on eBAy about a year ago. However i have never seen another or any other mobo with quad 771 sockets. I have seen dual node Supermicro servers that hold 4cpu's. however i am not sure whether they take the higher TDPs like in X5450s or 1600Mhz FSB chips.

It looks like all of the current MP (multiprocessor, i.e., greater than 2) chips have a code of the following format: E5-4xxx .
----------------------------------------Here , I think, is the complete list of current Supermicro boards that support 4 processors. ![]() ![]() |

Found the dual node 771 socket Supermicro server I was thinking about:
----------------------------------------This is the chassis: http://www.supermicro.com/products/chassis/1u/809/sc809t-980.cfm This is one example of a dual Intel 771 board setup with 2x X7DWT boards http://www.ebay.com/itm/1U-Supermicro-Server-...s&hash=item20dea0a4b5 The X7DWT board looks like it will take 1600 Mhz FSB chips. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by yojimbo197 at Jan 31, 2014 4:33:34 AM] |

Thanks Jimbo, but I was looking for a quad processor board, I have several dual processor systems based on the mentioned CPU but was looking to establish if there were any quad boards out there.
----------------------------------------It doesn't appear that this CPU is capable of quad config. Thanks for your input...
