Since the VINA apps have shown such an advantage in Linux 64 bit vs. Windows 64 bit as far as completion times go, has/is WCG (or the scientists for that matter) possibly considering issuing work units with the Virtualbox wrapper that BOINC supports? T4T, RNA, and Climate are all now using the wrapper. Would this be worthwhile for them to do?

Because that way people wouldn't need to install Linux 64 bits. They could just run the wrapper in Windows while still getting a nice speedup.

Because that way people wouldn't need to install Linux 64 bits. They could just run the wrapper in Windows while still getting a nice speedup. It would also means only having to create one app to run within the wrapper which means it should be easier to validate. You also eliminate a lot of the potential issues from multiple OS's. There are hundreds of Linux flavors and they are not all the same... |
