How to Properly Backup /slots RAMdisk?

I'm currently running arch linux with a tmpfs ramdisk for the slots directory. It works great, especially for CEP2, but I at times need to reboot the machine on short notice, and my attempts to backup the contents of the /slots directory have been inconsistent.

I:
(1) boinccmd --quit
(2) cd /var/lib/boinc && cp -a slots/. slotsbackup
(3) [reboot or umount /var/lib/boinc/slots && remount -a if I needed to change slots size]
(4) cd /var/lib/boinc && cp -a slotsbackup/. slots
(5) sudo systemctl start boinc.service
(6) boinccmd --get_tasks and notice that current CPU time is something like 15 seconds, which makes me sad.

I am also admittedly a newbie to arch and the bash / ssh way of doing things, but I've been reading a lot and yes I have extensively scoured the googles on numerous occasions and, I admit, I have failed to locate the answers which I'm sure are already out there, and yes I am asking one of you to rewrite the wheel (meh) for me.

I'll give rsync a go next time I find myself needing to reboot, thanks OldChap
