The screensaver is activated even though I did not click the activation box
CPU stays maxed out at 100% (it does not run at just idle time) I try to create a team but it says the name is already taken but the name is not in the list. G/L. |

The screensaver is activated even though I did not click the activation box What do you mean by the "activation box"? When you install the software it will, by default, install itself as the default screensaver. You can change this easily by going into your Display Properties and changing to a screen saver of your choosing. CPU stays maxed out at 100% (it does not run at just idle time) This is exactly what it is supposed to do and it is running during idle CPU time. ...that's why your CPU is running at 100%. See the thread http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=346 for more details. I try to create a team but it says the name is already taken but the name is not in the list. Thanks for the answer on the screensaver. I think it should be mentioned in the installation that this process changes the active (or non active, in my case) screensaver of your choice.
I run WindowsXP, and in the past have found many conflicts with other running programs if the screensaver did get into action (even to the point where the system freezes completely). So I got rid of the screensaver action completely. Besides that, IMHO present day CRT monitors do not have the tendency anymore to "burn in" pictures, and I doubt if TFT monitors can do this "trick" at all. So screensavers are a bit obsolete in that respect, and only (partly) usefull in locking up acounts if users are away from their pc. My own view is that there are 2 reasonable settings for Start - Settings - Control Panel - Display - Screen Saver: either (None) or Blank. Of course, I have an LED on the front of my monitor which reminds me that the power is on. I do not use a plasma screen with it's associated burn-in problems, but I have seen all sorts of display technologies come and go, with occasional burn-in problems, so I have chosen to standardize on Blank for my Screen Saver. If I started running into stability issues when the Screen Saver kicked on, then and only then would I switch over to (None). My personal preference is to set a long delay on the Screen Saver, so that the screen does not blink suddenly at me while I am concentrating on paperwork. I was surprised when the World Community Grid screen saver suddenly turned up on my screen, but I shrugged and let it run as a novelty for a few days, then went to Display where World Community Grid had been added to all the other Screen Savers and selected Blank again. I am a bit puzzled that there has been so much comment in this Forum about Screen Savers. This indicates that there should be more on the subect in the FAQs.
