Getting back to thread here.
----------------------------------------I really like everything I see here, except for some issues. Let me get to the main issue. PM's (Private Messages). Sure, I *could* link to other Boards with DC Forums and do this (send PM's). Including our *own* Board. Now, why should I do that? My thoughts concern the small Teams here with no web sites. Clearly, the large Teams *here* have their own web sites. Our *other* Team has a web site, yet, some people have enough Forums to deal with. Not being able to send PM's here is perplexing. I think this is the only DC project not to have one. I am not trying to sound negative. I am trying to be positive about a simple solution. Yes, I have read the reasons for the lack of this feature. Sending "Congrats" to your Team Mates via PM's is always a good thing. Yet, some PM's may cover other material concerning things that you may not want to post about. Just my two centavos. |

My answer to PM's is to allow users to see my email address - I've never had any probs YET so why don't we all share them? Problem solved!

EvoDude --
Any chance of talking you into changing your signature a bit? With the Stats and Team Banner side by side, your posts are wider than the screen (at least on my setting of 1024 X 768 pixels). I know you are probably pushing the limit on characters in the signature, but maybe you can find a way to squeeze in one carriage return? Thanks, |

Tossing in my personal opinion:
I think that private messaging is the most useful upgrade that could be made to the Forum. It would help with Team Messages, flame wars and private discussions. When RC4 of mvnForum was released early this year, I expected a speedy upgrade. But then I slowly became aware of what nelsoc recently posted: wrt the new version of MVNForum... upgrading is not a trivial procedure as some people might make it out to be. Unfortunately, we can't just install the new files and *poof* make it work. The forums here have been customized quite a bit by the WCG team, and we're quite busy with other things right now... other things that have also been requested many times on the forums... Even our Search facility was buggy during the first few months that the WCG was operating. Using multiple servers does wonders for our uptime and reliability, but it means that many of the features in our open-source forum software have to be customized to work correctly on multiple servers. Some features need to be customized but never have been customized, such as the colored envelopes pictured at the start of each thread in the Index. Since the Forum works well enough to allow us to support members with problems, I have to agree with nelsoc that we have to concentrate our programming efforts on new projects and new platforms. Plus look at ways to improve our data servers. I know that none of this work is visible to our members, so it looks as though we are just coasting, but the comments I am hearing over back-channels indicate that people are busy on a multitude of different fronts. |

Thanks, Consider it done Lewis, I keep forgetting not everyone works at 1280 x 1024. I'm not pushing limit at all (Thank the Lord for tinyurl) I've only got 100 characters in there so far! |

Yes, I am really waiting for the ability to send PM's here. Maybe I could use "Pig Latin" in messages to Team Mates for now. ![]() |
