Adding a device

I have two computers and one account. I set up the BOINC client on my Win 7 32-bit pc, and there are no problems getting projects/tasks.

However, today I installed the 7.2.33 (x64) bit client on my Win 8.1 pc and it won't retrieve any tasks from wcg - just says communication deferred until 23:59:42." Also, the log states, "no scheduler files found in master url." I've tried several times to update or reset the project but no joy.
When I click on wcg project properties in BOINC, there is no username or team name attached to it.

When I log into wcg, there is only one device listed under my account, the win 7 pc. How can I add the second device and have them under the same user account? There seems to be no way to add another pc. Do I have to set up another account on my win 8.1 pc? BAM! doesn't seem to helpwith this situation either.

Re: Adding a device

WCG and BAM are not very good together. All you should have to do (using Boinc Manager) is set up account at WCG download and attach to WCG. Having done that with the first PC, all you do with the second PC is download and attach as existing user, again with Boinc Manager................

Re: Adding a device

I did that already when I installed the BOINC client. When I click the properties button, the user name and team name are blank. Scheduler RPC is deferred until midnight. I am unable to add or modify the original device name in my wcg account, only the device profile. Also, the only device listed is the first pc I registered a few days ago.

I tried that, too. ;) Same issues. I wonder if there's a delay in the system when adding a new computer. I'll try booting up the win 8.1 pc again tomorrow and see.

Does Boinc Manager say "Connected to local host" at bottom right?

Re: Adding a device

Also what happens if you select "Tools", "Add Project", highlight WCG, and hit "Next"?

The project has already been added, please select a different project to add. And, yes, it's connected to the local host.

When I booted up this morning, again the scheduler RPC is deferred, and no scheduler files found in master url. The BOINC client on my win 8.1 pc is not receiving any work from wcg, and my account information does not appear to have integrated with the client in any way.

Re: Adding a device

On my win 8.1 64-bit pc after uninstalling the 7.0.64 client, deleting all associated registry keys, and rebooting. I tried setting up a new account at wcg and starting over. However, I'm still getting the same two messages: in the status portion of BOINC manager - "scheduler RPC is deferred" (ad infinitum) no matter how many times I attempt to update, reset, or delete/add the project; in the events log it states "[error] no scheduler files found in master url". On the wcg website under my account settings there are no devices listed; on my original account (tied to my win 7 32-bit pc) this information is listed. The availability of information on both of the messages I'm referring to is scant, even over at the BOINC forums. I've concluded that BOINC manager (even the 7.0.64 version) doesn't work well with machines running win 8.1 64-bit.

I run 3 machines with 8.1, 2 64 bit and one 32, no problems.
