I have an old Mac Mini that has been running WCG for a long, long, time and can still other Boinc projects without issue. However when I let it run WCG work it usually picks a Fight Aids work unit and immediately and consistently throws a computation error. Any ideas why?

Are they Autodock or VINA units? Does the host in question have a 32-bit processor--Core Solo or Core Duo? According to the system requirements page, VINA units require a 64-bit processor. You probably shouldn't be getting them if you're not 64-bit, but strange things do happen; just a thought.

It's a really old original macmini Coreduo - not 64 bit. They were autodock 7.15 units.

Has this machine previously produced valid results? Also, it looks like all error resuls have been cleared from results status page for you. What was the error you saw when trying to run.
Thanks, -Uplinger |

I expect this cruncher sees the same as I do on MacOS 10.5 when trying Autodock tasks:

You may be right. This unit has been running for more than 8 years producing valid results on all kinds of WCG projects. It seems to be only given FAH units now and they always immediately fail. Interestingly enough other Boinc projects run fine.

I did discover why it is being offered FAH work units instead of some of the others - it's because it only has 512mb of memory. I've set a profile for it that won't download FAH work unit it's probably not going to get any work.

If you wanted to boost its memory, you could probably find some pretty cheap...

If you wanted to boost its memory, you could probably find some pretty cheap... Prolly right but it's a lot of work, those old units are vey poorly designed in that regard to replace memory. The little box did produce almost 8 years of run time on WCG, not to bad for an abandoned piece of junk from the island of misfit toys. Results for this unit to date: 7:244:13:35:41 5,164,291 15,214 |

Doesn't look like anything too serious, although it takes a lot more than the PowerPC models. If I'd waited a month and gotten the Intel model (which would have cost an additional $100 at the time) I might still be using it as my daily computer.
