My crunching has been a bit off the last few days because I was attending my niece's wedding, which (inconveniently enough) was clear across the country in Destin, Florida. Seeing as how it takes all day to travel each direction, we decided to we might as well take the opportunity to be tourists since we were in the neighborhood.
I've been through the southern 2/3rds of Florida on many occasions (and so has the wife), so we went though the panhandle and out to the Atlantic coast. Then we continued up the coast of Georgia and South Carolina before catching the plane home. A great time was had by all and the weather was very cooperative. We managed cross Savannah off our to-do list, where it's been for quite some time. The historic section was definitely worth the visit. We were also very amused by the locals complaining of high gas (petrol) prices. We haven't seen prices that low in Silicon Valley in years. Anyhow, since I don't trust Windows' ability to recover from a power outage induced crash, I shut my Windows systems down. Almost all the points for the last week have been produced by an old, slow, underpowered laptop that runs Linux. Things should be back to normal in a couple of days. - D |

Things should be back to normal in a couple of days. - D Glad to hear you enjoyed things, especially Savannah. That's still on our list and it's only about five hours from here. Gas prices are relative. I've experienced West Coast gas prices more than once. Makes me wonder if Oregon still has self-serve outlawed? Hawaii's still got you beat! I fully understand about shutting things down while you're gone. I've always wrestled with that and been fortunate/lucky (knock on wood) leaving them running but then I always have checked the weather outlook right before leaving too. |

Yep. Oregon still does not allow self-serve. They have a long list of so-called reasons.
As for Hawaii having higher prices, that's true in general. However, there's a gas station near Big Sur (in the town of Gorda) that every so often makes the news for having the highest prices in the USA. $6/gal was common years ago. I have no idea what they charge now. One more thing about gas in California... premium has a lower octane rating here than in other states. 91 here vs. 93 most other places. We may pay more, but we get less. (Wait. That's NOT a good thing. )- D |
