Long Remaining times

I have an I7 920 running Linux that shows a remaining time of 41 hours for units waiting to be executed. Can that be correct? None of my other machines every show a time greater than 10 hours, but this one machine now has 8 units waiting all with an estimated run time of 41 hours each.

As long as none of the units running is currently stuck, you should be all right. Somehow your DCF (duration correction factor) got out of whack. As you complete work units it should correct itself back to your more normal setting. As long as the machine is completing units don't worry about it.

Re: Long Remaining times

Your Boinc PROGRESS percentage is a fairly accurate predictor of how long a task will run. I've had a couple of tasks running over 25 hours.

Re: Long Remaining times

I have one task that has been running for 58 hours with 1.5 hours left to run and another looking at 55 hours.
They checkpointed at 20 and 10 hours respectively.

There don't seem to be an errors nor are they stuck, so just super long units.

With the Intel Celeron 847 @1.1Ghz I believe your times are normal. That has a Passmark score of 989 putting it in the low to mid range. For a comparison see http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel...47+%40+1.10GHz&id=661

Re: Long Remaining times

Thanks Sgt Joe. Good to hear. It is a slow processor.
I did decide to investigate a little further and I found that NT and Kernel was using approx 13% of the cpu even after a restart.

Is there anyway to minimise this? It seems awfully high to me.

Let the OS do what it thinks necessary. I assume that you have 2 cores and 2 BOINC work units running simultaneously. How much RAM do you have?

That's unusual. Even my 25 hour jobs checkpointed every 10 minutes or so.
