Upgrading to version 7 or staying on version 6.10.58

Hi! I am using Windows 7 and I have installed version 6.10.58. Everything is running fine but I saw that some of you are using v7. Do you suggest to uppgrade to version 7 and which version or that I stay on 6.10.58? What are advantages if I upgrade? Before upgrading I need to finish all my work units, deinstall current version and install new?

Re: Upgrading to version 7 or staying on version 6.10.58

Hello markop619,
Most people are now running BOINC 7.0.64. WCG is holding off on security-checking the code, but that should only bother financial institutions (my opinion). The advantage is that you can place some new instructions in XML files that BOINC 7 will understand but earlier versions of BOINC will ignore.

Supposedly, you can upgrade BOINC while running. However, this sometimes causes problems on a major upgrade such as going from BOINC 6 to BOINC 7. So I would run out my queue and, in an excess of caution, uninstall BOINC 6 before upgrading. Even I would not bother deleting all BOINC directories when upgrading, though I would if going backwards on a major BOINC install (e.g. from 7 to 6).

Lawrence

Added: How did I forget? BOINC 7 installs on Windows 8.

I wouldn't use 7.2.33.
Probably buggy.

7.0.64 is fine.

I've been running version 7.2.33 (x64) since release on Windows 8.1 and I have had no errors on my AMD FX-8150 at 4.2 GHz. I'd call it flawless.
