I love to Ripple. I like to serve mine in a lead crystal claret glass.

A propos to Twilyth's post, When first I saw mention of Ripple in our context I thought, wow, what a negative, derisive connotation that name has. In the US, Ripple, along with Thunderbird and Rattlesnake Red was, and maybe still is the mixer of choice for the skid row set, properly jacked-up with a product like "Everclear", a 100 proof grain alcohol.

The said owners of these beverages almost always threatened to sue me (never happened). The only ones who did not threaten to sue me were the ones who were too drunk to care. Also do not forget the Boone's Farm family of beverages. BTW - Everclear is 200 proof. That is as close as you can get to 100% pure grain alcohol. The only way I know of to make it more pure is to use benzene, which will make the beverage poisonous (denatured alcohol). Everclear is not sold in Minnesota, but is available in South Dakota. Drinking that stuff is one way to get acute alcohol poisoning quickly. Every year we hear about a few unfortunate individuals, mostly young, who pass out and die from too much alcohol. Sad. Anyway, enough of this depressing subject. Crunch on. Cheers

Sgt.Joe - Yes, I spotted that error too, I've always confused proof with percentage, and to this day I can't remember if that is by weight or volume. Thankfully, not the sort of thing I have had need to be cognizant of.
"That is the sort of thing up with which I will not put." very loosely quoted from Winston Churchill. Forgive me Winnie. |
