Help Conquer Cancer and Help Fight Childhood Cancer, the 3 of them are researching different things? are the research and/or results coordinated/shared?
I don't mind participating, I'm just worry that maybe, I don't think it's probable, we could be doing redundant or overlapping research and if not and the research are approaching the problem from different angles are those projects sharing data? because is logical to assume that the more research is shared the more we know about the cancer and more heads thinking could lead to better and faster results. I hope my perspective is not too far out of place, I'm just wondering these questions and nobody seems to be giving any info about them. |

Been thoroughly unable to discover any overlap, even remotely with other C research. In the case of MCM as the project name indicates, we're on a massive Cancer Marker Mapping endeavor as to allow future extreme exact pinpointing of the individual cancer, where no 2 persons are exactly the same [why does treatment work on 1 patient, but not on the next?]. Many discussions on the internet regarding 'custom' medication, which knowing the 'individual profile' and finding a matching marker set would allow. Past research is the basis of progressive research, and that's what we're doing, one build on previous knowledge-bases that's been build and the insights that came with those.
P.S., don't forget we also had Help Defeat Cancer [HDC] in 2006-2007, so MCM is the 4th Cancer research funded project at WCG. |

Hello Saul Luizaga,
----------------------------------------There is no redundancy. HFCC attempts to find new anti-cancer drugs against neuroblastoma, one of the most frequent cancers producing solid tumors in children. We ran a suite of molecules against 10 targets looking for possible drugs. Then we waited while they attempted to crystallize an 11th cancer protein from a neuroblastoma so that x-ray diffraction analysis could map a target site for our computers. Right now HFCC is trying to think of something new to do. HCC worked on the protein crystallization problem. There are many thousands of proteins in various cancers that have never been crystallized and therefore can not be run through computer drug searches. HCC is attempting to use image analysis to automate protein crystallization. MCM is trying to identify different kinds of cancers using diagnostic lab tests. There are many thousands of different types of cancer. If each type can be identified, then we can build up a history of how each type reacts to different types of treatment. This would improve treatment. MCM and HDC (Help Defeat Cancer) are very similar in intent, but HDC uses computer vision to study stained biopsies of cancer tumors and MCM uses laboratory diagnostic data from patients. ....and don't forget the HCC and MCM are run by the same scientists

THKS Saul Luizaga to have raised the problem (if any )
----------------------------------------and i personally have learn a lot from these well documented answers . One day a team of scientists somewhere will do the synthesis of all these researches and a cure would be found. That's our hope and motive to keep crunching. cheers ![]() |

Thanks a lot for the info. that leaves my mind at ease, and now I understand better our efforts, very interesting, and glad to see returning scientists with more projects to advance science and research.
@alged: my hope is that eventually someday all scientists share knowledge and research, so more scientists can have better knowledge database and do better and faster research for Humanity. And yes, that's our hope to keep crunching. Cheers. |
