Newbie help please

Hi, a simple problem but need your help please:

using version 7.2.33 on Windows8 and I need to be able to connect to the World Community Grid.

I tried http://www.worldcommunitygrid.ord and my ID + Password in the agent page, but I keep getting a bad ID and password.

What am I doing wrong? Your help appreciated.

Hello JeremyJGreen,
This one is easy to solve - it isn't your fault. BOINC 7.2.3x is a beta release filled with errors. Uninstall it and install BOINC 7.0.64.

Re: Newbie help please

The last character in your link has to be a g, not a d, but guess it's just a post typo. Best when adding WCG you pick it from the drop down list.

Make sure you're signed in on Windows 8.x in a local account, not the MS account, else don't know. The password is case sensitive, the member ID is not FAIK.

Which 7.2.33 have you pulled... the normal or the VBOX expanded version? [don't think this version is go to stay 'recommended' for very long].

Both Lawrence and Rob say 7.2.33 is a BETA release but BOINC Downloads repeatedly identify 7.2.33 as Recommended version crying

No mention of it being BETA or that it is error prone. crying BOINC should make it clear.

Re: Newbie help please

Well, I've posted on it several times, not passing my personal check list [not WCG's either as I continue to see frantic updating of the localization/language files, which of course is irrelevant if your native language happens to be Yankee English].

Just installed a non VBox copy of 7.2.33 on W8.1-64, as a service. It's starting to become intrusiveware. First time ever I've seen the BOINC installer halting with the insistence of me closing the Firefox browser... digging deeper into the registry. Just did a remove of WCG and a re-add, but could not reproduce the issue... this project was successfully added.

Disturbingly, Windows Defender has started to block my Alwil Avast AV from launching [plz visit our windows app shop for more information]. There's more frying ongoing in W8 land.

Re: Newbie help please

Well, pulled the latest Avast 2014, again Windows Defender wanted to put a foot square, but this time told it, Avast was supreme, and it's now running.
