Anyone:
----------------------------------------I have two machines working with the same Device Profile, but one seems to have lost the ability to upload completed tasks, for the past 4 or 5 days. There are 120 completed FAH tasks, and probably another hundred completed MCM tasks that will not upload to the server. When I hit "Update" it says "Communication deferred 2:45:00". I am running BOINC 7.2.31 on Windows 7 64-bit. I am accessing this forum on the problem machine, so my network connectivity is fine, and this computer has had no such problems before. Any ideas? Thanks PS: No to complain, but when I did a search on these forums for clues about 'tasks won't update', all I got were results containing the word 'update' ..... which is singularly useless ..... Is there a better search tool that could be installed that would do more intelligent searches, or am I the one who needs to become more intelligent? ![]() |

Hello Tomahawk4196,
[Shrug Shoulders] Searching for advice, I found this recent post: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/...ead,35838_offset,0#439532 Here is the complete documentation on cc_config.xml: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Cc_config.xml Lawrence |

This post by Ingleside introduced a "not previously paid attention to" control [by me] which limits the number of concurrent Ready to Reports per attempt. No message log was posted in OP, so it's a guess:
----------------------------------------http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=440062 The value 50 worked, a higher one could work too, but who cares if tasks are reported in 1-2 or 3 runs. edit: Note that this applies to 'Ready to Report' which is a different thing to Result uploading, meaning the files have not cleared from the transfer tab. Folks:
----------------------------------------Yes, when I say the task won't upload, I mean they list their own status as "Ready to report". I do not have any cc_config.xml file installed, that I know of. Thanks ![]() |

OK, I've added a cc_config.xml file (edited in Notepad) in the folder
----------------------------------------C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org. I then re-opened BOINC manager, went to the Advanced tab, and hit Read Config Files. The result: 11/25/2013 7:52:51 PM | Milkyway@Home | project suspended by user 11/25/2013 7:52:59 PM | | Re-reading cc_config.xml 11/25/2013 7:52:59 PM | | cc_config.xml not found - using defaults 11/25/2013 7:52:59 PM | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 11/25/2013 7:52:59 PM | Milkyway@Home | Found app_config.xml 11/25/2013 7:53:53 PM | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks. 11/25/2013 7:53:53 PM | World Community Grid | Reporting 273 completed tasks 11/25/2013 7:53:53 PM | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for CPU and ATI 11/25/2013 7:53:56 PM | World Community Grid | [error] Can't parse workunit in scheduler reply: unexpected XML tag or syntax 11/25/2013 7:53:56 PM | World Community Grid | [error] No close tag in scheduler reply It's also not downloading any new work -- again, affecting only this one machine, which has had no known changes that might trigger this problem. Hopefully those last two lines will mean something to someone .... Thanks for any help that anyone can offer! ;----) ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Tomahawk4196 at Nov 26, 2013 2:59:52 AM] |

Your log says:
11/25/2013 7:52:59 PM | | cc_config.xml not found - using defaults Ingleside did write to put cc_config.xml "In your BOINC data-directory", not in the project folder. Thusly move the file to: C:\ProgramData\BOINC Those error messages you may ignore... they occasionally appear out of nowhere from the server. |

OK, I re-located the cc-config.xml file to C:\ProgramData\BOINC, restarted the computer, re-went to Advanced tab, re-hit Read Config Files, and the re-sult is
----------------------------------------11/26/2013 5:03:20 AM | | Re-reading cc_config.xml 11/26/2013 5:03:20 AM | | Not using a proxy 11/26/2013 5:03:20 AM | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 11/26/2013 5:03:20 AM | Milkyway@Home | Found app_config.xml 11/26/2013 5:14:34 AM | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: Requested by project. 11/26/2013 5:14:34 AM | World Community Grid | Reporting 50 completed tasks 11/26/2013 5:14:34 AM | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for CPU and ATI 11/26/2013 5:14:37 AM | World Community Grid | [error] Can't parse workunit in scheduler reply: unexpected XML tag or syntax 11/26/2013 5:14:37 AM | World Community Grid | [error] No close tag in scheduler reply Those errors seem to occur at every attempt to communicate. Also, this 16 core machine is now getting no work at all from WCG - nothing uploading, nothing downloading. There are 296 completed tasks, a mixture of FAH-Vina, FAH-Autodock, and MCM_7.26, all ready to report, stuck somehow. Would it be safe to Reset Project? Thanks again for any insights you may have. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Tomahawk4196 at Nov 26, 2013 10:32:47 AM] |

I have a nasty feeling that a Project Reset may lose the lot!

Thought so -
Reset project: Stop the project's current work, if any, and start from scratch. Use this if BOINC has become stuck for some reason. Any unreported results and tasks in progress will be discarded. |
