As Berkeley removed the 'claimed' feature from the Server 700 BOINC server, WCG having hacked it back in, soon you don't have to worry about that frustration generator anymore... few more website updates and it's gone. Here's a list of columns of a 'standard' layout over at a 'standard' BOINC project.
Task - click for details Work unit - click for details Computer Sent Time reported or deadline Status Run time (sec) CPU time (sec) Credit Application As you see, no 'claimed' My PV total hours shot up by 300 percent [because this is full quorum 2 territory, from before mostly running zero redundant on CEP2 and FAHV], so making RAC comparisons this early in the project I'd consider ill advised. Wait a week for it to settle in, if you intend to keep running MCM exclusive for that long to find out. As for actual credit per hour, [no news on my part] v700 is a broken random number generator compounded by WCG legacies. But, MCM is overall running at 22.34 credit/hr [project full time average 22.49], which is only slightly lower than FA@H. Those running Linux-64 will though be hurting bad.... no VINA flying app this is compared to Windows. Present day projection: Beta 22.20â FA@H 22.65- CEP2 27.91- (And I don't think this one is over-awarded considering the heavy resource use) MCM 22.34- ...Back to under my stone. |

My farm is running 50% MCM and 50% FA@H/CEP2 and daily numbers have dropped 24%. The MCM is mostly running on 64 bit Linux.
I'm here for the science and as such will carry on. But it is still not a great feeling to see the charts drop to such a degree. Will carry on. Still glad to have a cancer project. ![]() |

I noticed this too and at the same time, WCG dropped the points ranking from the page header. (Conspiracy theorists feel free to comment
---------------------------------------- )I know that if I had a clone with identical machines to mine and crunching at the same rate, his rating would continue to climb if he chose a different project whilst mine will fall. For me, the points are less of an incentive. I'm driven by crunching for cancer research and as long as they remain on the menu, I will continue to crunch here regardless. ![]() Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. |

As usual, I think SekeRob may have hit the nail on the head. My windows machines seem to be getting similar PPH numbers, the Linux-64 ones not so much. ![]() |

Maybe I should add that a couple of my machines (the last of the old guard) are dual core with HT (so running 4 threads). They are the ones that are doing well from this project so far. The consistently are getting more points than claimed per WU whilst the 6-core Intels with HT seem to consistently take a hit.
----------------------------------------Getting the work done is paramount for me, so I'll just bite the bullet and crunch on ![]() ![]() Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. |

Quick question,
When you mention being down X points per day or a certain percentage, is there an assumption that your computers will be granted 100% for the days work for MCM? Reason I say that is I have 200+ cores running MCM right now and my average is still low for CPU time per day because of waiting for wingmen. Because it requires a redundant result back it takes some time to plateau the stats. Thanks, -Uplinger |

I have noticed a difference in the credit as well.
----------------------------------------MCM work units: 1-2 hours, 50-90 credit FAHV work units: 0.5 hours, 40 credit So it looks like it's roughly half the credit for me. 64 bit Linux on a quad core (no HT). Like others, I'm not going to stop crunching MCM just because of the points, but it would be nice to see it more on par with other projects. Because it requires a redundant result back it takes some time to plateau the stats. Thanks, -Uplinger In my case, I was referring only to work that was completed and validated as: Sum of all points rewarded for work validated in a day, divided by the sum of time for those work units = points per hour. (PPH) That is what I was using to make a comparison. But when I agreed with 30% fewer points, I was using the daily totals for all eight of my machines, 6 Linux-64 and 2 Vista-32. As SekeRob pointed out, Linux-64 running FAAH/VINA sees a premium of speed which raises the PPH for those machines so they return less when running MCM1 where no such premium exists. On the other hand, Win-32 runs VINA without that speed advantage and when I compare only those wu's to Win-32 MCM1 they are about the same. This is a more apples-to-apples comparison IMO. The bottom line for me is no harm no foul. I'll run "all in" on MCM1 until I get to sapphire then run a mix of all available projects. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by gomeyer at Nov 12, 2013 11:11:14 PM] |
