The BOINC scheduler didn't have a way to handle situations where it was overloaded. This had the effect of really bogging down the server and preventing new work from being loaded in (because the feeder was slowed down).
As a result, we added a mechanism so that when the server load exceeds a certain threshold, then it sends a back off request to the client with that message. It is a temporary situation and your client will retry automatically. It is also on the server side and thus there is no action required on your part. |

I found it odd. In more than a few years here I've never seen that error before. Odd you should bring this up DA. I saw this message once on two different machines while we were running the Beta test. As it went away the next time BOINC contacted WCG, I did not think anything of it. I never saw it before either. ![]() EDIT: Thanks knreed. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dataman at Nov 8, 2013 2:37:22 PM] |

Kevin, if you created this signal from server to client, a brand new one, why the alarmist "Server error:..."? Suggest you take that 'error' sting out and rename it to Server Warning:... or even better, a more neutral Server Message: High Load. Deferring request - No user action needed! There are more of these I'm sure that could do with some toning down, since they are of auto-recovery nature. |

Rob - good point. I'll change. We are doing.... something... right now on the prod environment. Once that is done and stable I'll make that change.

FYI - The Aspens is my 'crunching account' and 'knreed' is my admin account. I just made two posts under the wrong account.

This message will now show up as "Message from server: We are currently experiencing high load and are temporarily deferring your request. Your client will automatically try again later."
This should be significantly less alarmist. |

Now, the receiver seems to be out of disk space. May take bit longer time to recover...

Now, the receiver seems to be out of disk space. May take bit longer time to recover... Yup, getting "server out of disk space" error messages when uploading finished MCM tasks... ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by TPCBF at Nov 13, 2013 3:36:39 AM] |
