Did not show up in the Windows Update screen but if one follows this link picked up from the ActiveWin website [ignore the 'buy' bit] and you have W8, it will show a page with Get the Upgrade and or Update Now: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/buy
----------------------------------------'Just' a 3.63GB download :D edit: The Update screen puzzled for it said "downloading Windows 8 Pro", thinking to have just the regular version, but PC Info did so it was 8.0 Pro sitting on here. Microsoft changed the way this "update" is being done. It will not show up as an "update", but you have go to the store and download it.
----------------------------------------Part 3. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/update-from-windows-8-tutorial Also I think I read some where going forward for these types of "update" will be done though the store, all other via the patch updates/upgrade. ![]() |

Well the update was a piece of cake, less than 30 minutes, including the download at 37 Megs....now trying to find all the new "old" features

My near 3.7 Gig + Language Packs [5 in total in the umpteen MBs] against your 37Mb... one wonders. Anyway, after applying the update from 8.0 Pro to 8.1 Pro and multiple boots and ages to build the apps screens and recover the 'impostazione' [automatically], hit the Windows Update option and search, which after completing pulled in more updates and patches to include one for 8.1 of 221MB. By the time finished probable and ouchsome 4.5GB. Apart from 'what was that all about, this start button?' which all it does for me is bring up or hide the panel screen, the OS is pretty responsive, dare say W7 level, and had a lossless continuation of 4 BOINC tasks in progress. Can flip flop the interface language now at will, which is major for me compared to W7... at no cost.

Right Click the Start button and you will find more options including Shutdown. If you also right click the toolbar, select properties, then navigation, you can get it to boot to desktop, turn off the irritation charms at right of screen etc....

A dilated tube for you ;-9
----------------------------------------The Rightclick was revelatory [why did I forget that pre-W8 startbutton functionality?]. It has certainly the key needs to swiftly make changes and move around. The charm never bothered me... could get to most anything there, albeit maybe a bit slower. edit: Installed the latest BOINC x86_64 'release candidate' 7.2.23 build as service over the running WCG last build 7.2.7 x86 (32 bit) running as non-service (would not have it any different or it failed connecting the BM to the core client). The 'upgrade' went off flawless. All 4 tasks resumed where they were rudely interrupted. (Whilst writing this, downloading the final Ubuntu 'Saucy' 13.10... as at it anyway on this dual boot device. Could as well upgrade that OS too and have the latest/greatest of both worlds...Win and Nix) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 18, 2013 12:13:08 PM] |
